Money Laundering: Phantoms, Imagery and Facts
Wednesday March 17th, 2010
Professor Jackie Harvey of Newcastle Business School will be delivering her inaugural lecture on Wednesday, 17 March at 6.30pm. Professor Harvey’s chosen theme is:
“Money Laundering: Phantoms, Imagery and Facts”
Little empirical research is being undertaken on money laundering, but a common presumption is that the amounts involved risk undermining the integrity of the financial system.
Professor Harvey will assess the outcome of laws and policies introduced to prevent money laundering. She will examine the effects of criminalisation, and the impact of monitoring and reporting regimes. Her lecture will seek to distinguish between phantoms, imagery and facts.
Jackie Harvey is Professor of Financial Management and an academic leader of the Financial Management, Risk and Performance subject group of Newcastle Business School. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the European Cross-Border Crime Colloquium, and prior to joining Northumbria University had a career in banking and industry, including a UK Government posting as fiscal policy adviser to the Ministry of Finance in Belize.
Professor Harvey’s lecture will be held in Lecture Theatre 003, Newcastle Business School building in City Campus East. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. We would be delighted if you could join us.
